Police Academy 5 is undoubtedly the most fun of the Police Academy series - in fact I did laugh a few times, twice more than the rest of the series combined. However, it is still a terrible Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach Comedy movie that should be avoided. The act is evil, there are too many jokes that are simply not even remotely funny and the direction leaves much to be desired. The basic plot sees the police force down to Miami where they are mixed in a kidnapping plot. Police Academy like Bubba Smith, David Graf and George Gaynes return, but no Steve Guttenburg this time. If you want to waste 90 minutes of your life watching a Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach Comedy film in the series of this watch, but otherwise stay clear.

George Gaynes stands out as the idea of Eric Lassard who wanders through life creating chaos in their wake, but always manages to leave on top. He is the answer to the French Clouseau. René Aubejonois is just as big a thief in the head this movie. And GW Bailey. It takes a rare quality of an actor to play the hated but always accident-prone character he plays. These films are fun, and this was one of the best.

I love this Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach movie for a variety of reasons, but one is the way everyone seems to be happy with everyone else in the film. The hijinks of the group are similar to others in the series, to pursue the ridiculous in the end. However, finding the gags particularly effective on this occasion. The "plot"? Well, Lazard was "crowned" police officer of the decade, and the ceremony takes place in Miami.
