Four boys growing up in Hell's Kitchen play a prank that leads to an old man getting hurt. Sentenced to no less than one year in the Wilkenson Center in upstate New York, the four friends are changed by the beating, humiliation and sexual abuse by the guards sworn to protect them. Thirteen years later and a chance meeting lead to a chance for revenge against the Wilkenson Center and the guards.

The first hour of sleepers is very impressive, with the protagonists of "falling into the hands of their oppressors and the subsequent atrocities treated very well. The images of what happens to boys are sensational, but realistic, avoiding, except in a key, the kind of uprising against the triumphant-frame that usually takes over. There are no heroes or courage - just blunt brutality. Unfortunately, the second half of the film, in which wages convoluted drama take revenge, can not deliver the punch. The only interesting character from prison too soon meet its end, and we still seem to encourage the demise of the characters we've seen in only half-time looming fragments. We know nothing of them, and do not care about their plight, not in general "are bad so you must die" Hollywood kind of way. We are also asked to support a priest who is under oath to protect two children who, by his own admission, have killed a man in a bar. Several witnesses who saw the killings occurred in front of them is ignored by the end of the DVD movie Sleepers - all logic have been issued to the four winds to support a value system that, if only intuitively, ie reflection, very dim.
